Opinion: This elections are not about policies, but our country's model

Anna Wyt is the CEO of Noardlân Parse Ûndernimming (NPÛ), one of the largest media organizations of Doggerland. She's not affiliated to any political party, but closely related to Ús Noardlân, a party who she has campaigned for this elections.

This elections will be remembered as one of the most historical ones in the country. Not necessarily because of significant constitutional changes, as happened in January 2021, but for the high polarization. Near four million Doggers (like you or me) will have to choose between eleven parties (nine of them in four alliances), as more and more parties openly declare their support around a certain candidate.

Joris Jansen has had an interesting term, characterized by a feeling of frustration from the right (Freedom Bloc and the currently extraparliamentary IDP), which has considered itself isolated from politics due to Jansen preferring a big-tent coalition (which saw Doggerland Left ministers being kicked as soon as the party merged into Solidarity) over a right-wing one, citing "stability" as one of his concerns. For the first time in a good time, anti-SRB and REST parties got a simple majority, which has led to the repeal of both the SRB and REST Acts (the later being substituted by a more moderate version). It's yet to see the answer of the economy to this reforms, since some of the corporations that left the country are still waiting to see how politics end up evolving in the country.

Another concern was the budget, something the right criticized as spending too much and the left as spending too little. The reality is that our current budget (passed under the Wagers administration) is realistically difficult to accomplish due to the high investments and corporations fleeing the country to pay less taxes in countries like the Netherlands or Iceland. Jansen decided to keep Wagers' budget to avoid further tensions, especially with F&E inside the government.

One of the biggest advancements though, was the COVID pandemic. 61.9% of Doggers have received both doses and 73.4% have received at least a single dose. The reticence of some Doggers (especially Noardlâners) to get a vaccine has made the rate a bit lower than the European average.

Another big change was the expansion of presidential powers, which gave a higher say to the presidency. This might sound good for now and is celebrated as a major win for Action Alliance, but this might lead to repercussions in the future in case a Trump-like populist or an authoritarian are elected as president.

We can't forget the fast-track system of the National Assembly, the evacuation of several Afghans to Doggerland or the Noardlân Development Act, which was passed as a bipartisan effort.

These are some major accomplishments done, although the economy is still in a weak state. Thousands of Doggers are still unemployed, especially in the service sector, due to the COVID pandemic. The solutions presented by the left haven't done anything but worsen the brain drain to the rest of the EU (which they've started to criticize due to the striking of several articles of the SRB as contradictory with EU legislation). The center-right had a chance to change the economy, which they've partially done with the abolition of the SRB and the reform of the REST Act (actually liked by the Liberals).

Only four parties have clearly expressed they want a change in the current budget by cutting taxes on the middle class (and everyone really, the budget is exorbitantly big), reducing public spending to the necessary and in an effective way. This four parties have also called for the UBI to be changed to a NTI. This four parties are Ús Noardlân, the Libertarian Party, New Right and the Independent Democracy Party. The four are proposing common sense legislation and a reform of the economic system to grow Doggerland's economy. They're ready to take difficult, non-popular choices to improve our economy while respecting civil liberties.

I will personally vote for the list of Bent Jansma and I urge all my readers to consider such parties before voting in yet another election.
